La Crosse man charged with sexual assault of mentally disabled woman
Investigator say victim is not mentally able to consent to sex
A 40-year-old La Crosse man could get 40 years behind bars, if he’s convicted of raping a woman considered mentally disabled.
Investigators say Karl Stoy IV and the woman had sexual intercourse last week at the care center in La Crosse where she lives, but Stoy did not stop when she told him to do so.
According to a criminal complaint, the woman says she wanted to have sex, but a guardian claims the resident is not mentally able to give consent.
The incident reportedly happened on the 4th of July, after Stoy and the woman were watching fireworks at the care center.
Bond is set at $10,000 for Stoy on a second-degree charge of sexually assaulting a mentally ill victim.
He’s also charged with violating his bail in a previous case.
