Fence gets the best of La Crosse man running from police
He says he ran from police because he thought someone was trying to jump him.
Meanwhile it was his jumping — or lack thereof — that helped La Crosse police arrest Michael Lewko.
Authorities were called a little after midnight Sunday at a residence on George Street, where several men were yelling and apparently ready to fight.
When police arrived, Lewko took off running. The 29-year-old La Crosse man got a few blocks before trying to jump a fence in the yard of a Kane Street house.
He went through an alley then into a Kane Street yard, where the dreaded fence got the best of him.
He tried to jump it. Didn’t quite make it and the fence collapsed underneath him.
That was enough, and he surrendered after being threatened with a taser.
He told police someone told him to run, so he did.
He’s in jail with no bond, charged with resisting, criminal damage to property — that whole breaking a fence thing — and probation violation.
