La Crosse begins search for crime analyst

The La Crosse Police Department is on its way to having a solid hundred sworn officers, plus a new crime analyst.

The city has begun a search to fill the new crime analyst position, which will be essential for modern crime fighting, says Capt. Jason Melby.

“With law enforcement today, there’s a ton of data that gets collected,” Melby said. “The problem is having staff around to extract the information and identify patterns and trends in crime.

“It’ll help us focus our efforts on target areas and be more effective on deploying our manpower.”

The position was approved by the city council last fall. The annual salary range for this exempt position is $58,806.93 to $77,134.17 with a hiring range of $58,806.93 to $67,350.00 DOQ.
