BLAIR, Wis.  A dairy products plant in Blair is the source of a nationwide salmonella recall related to Goldfish crackers.

Associated Milk Producers, Inc., this week, issued a recall for dry whey powder produced at the company’s plant there.

The whey powder isn’t sold to consumers but is used in food products like Goldfish crackers.

The company has stopped production of the whey powder at the plant and is currently investigating the source of the contamination.

Several varieties of Goldfish, along with Ritz Bitz, Swiss rolls and bread are all part of a nationwide recall.

So far, none of those products have tested positive for salmonella, which is a bacteria that can cause fever, diarrhea or more serious issues in children and the elderly.

In a statement, the FDA said, “There is no evidence at this time that anyone was sickened from one of these products, or that these products are contaminated. These recalls are being initiated because of a potential risk, and out of an abundance of caution.”
