Record Award aimed at encouraging designs for library banners
A $1,000 prize could be a big incentive for area artists to enter a contest put on by the La Crosse Public Library.
That prize is at stake for the winner of the newly-established Record Award. It’s named after long-time Mid-west Family Broadcasting president
Dick Record, who hopes that there will be many entries for the contest from throughout the community.
“It’s going to open some opportunities for artists — young artists and old artists,” Record said. “We need more art in the public parts of the city.”
The search is on for the La Crosse artist who can design a banner about reading and diversity for the south wall of the main street library.
Library director Kelly Krieg-Sigman describes what the banner is supposed to represent.
“The guidelines for the subject matter are a piece that will foster community, refelct cultural diversity and inclusion, foster a love of reading and learning,” she said.
The new banner will be a companion to the banners now decorating the north entrance.
All of the entries will be submitted online here. An unveiling of the new banner is scheduled for April.
