Totals in on cost of Helping Hands mural in downtown La Crosse

The cost of the Helping Hands mural on the Third Street parking ramp was $2,118.

The city’s park board said local artist Landon Sheely was paid $1,000 for the mural. The rest of the money went toward the man-lift Sheely used ($1,100) and his parking and paint ($100).

The chair of the arts board said he’s heard “almost universal praise” for the artwork.

In comparison, the 3D mural on the Pump House, installed four years ago, cost the city $110,000, which included a $25,000 grant and $5,000 in contributions from La Crosse County and a private donor.
