The Onalaska School District is looking to the future as another $45 million in school safety grants from the state.

Director of Finance and Business Services Kent Ellickson told the school board Monday there are a few options to consider.

“We can go towards the mental health area and pursue some training,” he said. “We could also pursue funds to continue to do some physical. But we just haven’t had a chance to explore this and prioritize it but we would like to put together a grant application.”

The district previously was awarded a $99,950 grant, that will be used to install exterior door monitoring systems and fix classroom door locks.

Quietly, the Wisconsin Department of Justice gave grants related to mental health services. Onalaska Superintendent Fran Finco says they received $58,860.

The board gave approval for the district to apply for the second round of grants though that deadline was Monday.
