The city’s parks and forestry department is moving ahead with plans to assess and remove trees on boulevards that have been treated for emerald ash borer but have become infested and diseased anyway.

Those are largely the ones that property owners treated with the understanding they may have to come down sometime in the future.

The city’s parks board will consider a new policy related to removing treated trees at a meeting today.

Those that have been infected by the ash borer are becoming a safety hazard, according to the city.

The plan is to have the city crews check out all the remaining treated ash trees and determine whether they will have to be removed.

Property owners have 10 days to appeal that determination. The city has removed thousands of ash trees from boulevards and other public property over the last six years.
