Some community leaders in La Crosse, and people active in recovery programs, are promoting anti-addiction efforts by U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin.

Baldwin, a Democrat from La Crosse, organized an event Monday in the city where recovery ‘advocates’ endorsed the Senator’s actions to fight opioid addiction.

Supporters hope that people who deal with addiction will become backers of Baldwin.

Katie Jaeger has been the program director for the Ophelia’s House facility in La Crosse, where she says 100 percent of the women are addicts.

“If legislatures like Tammy Baldwin are actually talking about this and are actually sharing their stories and making it more relatable, hopefully the rest of the community will kind of follow suit in becoming more accepting,” Jaeger said.

Jaeger was among more than a dozen people at the Copeland Park event, uring voters to re-elect Baldwin.

The Democratic Senator grew up with an addicted mother and helped pass an opioid ‘crisis’ bill in Congress.

Baldwin did not personally attending all the events aimed at backing her programs.
