As I See It
Walker not so frugal with use of state airplane
Governor Scott Walker likes to paint himself as a rather frugal guy. Remember the campaign commercials when he first ran for Governor? He ran ads boasting that he continued to drive on old car, and brownbagged his lunch. Well, perhaps he is frugal when spending his own money, but not so much when he is spending ours. Newly released public records show Governor Walker has been busy criss-crossing the state in a state airplane. Since his failed Presidential bid came to an end in 2015 until today, Walker has taken nearly 900 flights in a state airplane, logging more than 11,000 miles, at a cost to taxpayers of more than $800,000. He has repeatedly flown to La Crosse, to speak at local stores about the availability of that tax-free back to school shopping. He still hasn’t gotten on an airplane to visit a state prison. Not once since he has been in office, despite well-documented problems at the state’s youth prison. He did however fly in a state airplane, according to the group One Wisconsin Now, after getting a haircut in Milwaukee, to an NRA convention in Wausau. After attended the funeral of former State Supreme Court Justice Patrick Crooks, Walker was whisked in the state plane to a Badger football game. He even took the state plane from Madison to West Bend to take part in a “Walk with Walker” campaign event. He literally flew in order to take a walk. Walker may like to portray himself as frugal, but his use of the state airplane suggests otherwise.
