The Swinger was a new Polaroid camera, not a girl…but in 1966, “The Polaroid Girl” was on hand at K-Mart in La Crosse to demonstrate the camera, selling for $14.97.”  Polaroid promoted the Swinger as the camera that said “yes” in the viewfinder when it was ready to take a picture.  On the same day, K-Mart hosted a pancake jamboree…serving free Aunt Jemima pancakes, and Oscar Mayer smokie links.

Rocky was retiring from Rocky’s cocktail lounge in Stoddard.  It was actually semi-retirement for Rocky and his wife, Iona.  Gordy and Joan Marshall were the new proprietors for the supper club on Highway 35…which is still in business, and known for its cheese curds.

Among La Crosse’s favorite local rock bands were “The Dynamics,” with Tom Thompson, Terry Schmeckpeper, Tim Nicholson, Jim Mitchell, and Warren Hoff.  “The Fax” also played in the area…featuring Mike Palmer, Greg Haskell, Greg Fritsch, and Steve Noffke.  Rock favorites in 1966, 52 years ago, yesterday in La Crosse.
