Westby breaks 43-year-old rainfall record by 9.06 inches
A record-setting rain for Westby, as the downpour continues.
In a 24-hour period beginning at 7 a.m. Aug. 27, Westby recorded 9.98 inches of rain, blowing away its previous record of .92 inches.
From 7 a.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday, Westby broke Aug. 27, 1975 rainfall record by 9.06 inches, according to the National Weather Service of La Crosse.
It was also the towns wettest 24-hour period ever recorded. The previous record was 7.17 inches from August 18-19 of 2007.
The records date back to 1956.
For those who need to seek shelter in the area, the Red Cross has opened the high school.
