La Crosse Salvation Army goes where asked in recovery effort of flood
Local nonprofits have been at the forefront of recovery efforts following the devastating flooding this week in the Coulee Region.
The Salvation Army in La Crosse is going on the road to hand out over 300 lunches to those volunteers in Vernon County.
“The least that we can do is provide them with enough resources to keep them energized and going throughout the day,” Salvation Army media coordinator Nick Ragnar said.
Ragnar said they go where they’re needed.
“We respond to whatever it is we’re asked to help with,” he said. “We dropped off about 200 flood kits to Coon Valley. We dropped off about 100 flood kits to Viroqua and those flood kits had things like brooms and mops and work gloves.”
Having dealt with other major disasters, like hurricanes earlier this year, Ragnar said those donating anything other than time, make sure that donation is needed.
“We never know what it is that they need on a given day,” Ragnar said. “Today it could be flood kits, tomorrow it could be meals.”
Ragnar recommends to those donating items, make sure to call the emergency management coordinators of the affected counties to make sure you aren’t slowing the relief efforts.
