Xcel guidelines for property owners affected by floodwaters
Safety is urged for those having to tackle gas and electrical utility problems with homes affected by floodwaters.
Xcel Energy says it may have to disconnect gas and electrical service in certain flood situations and urges property owners not to do that themselves.
The company also warns against going into any part of a home that may have floodwaters in it unless the electricity is disconnected.
Homeowners will also have to have a licensed electrician go through the home after floodwaters recede. Only after an inspection by the electrician will Xcel be able to reconnect utilities.
