Potential FEMA scam sparks warning from Vernon County

No, FEMA has not made it to Vernon County just yet.

Linda Nederlo with Vernon County Emergency Management wanted to get that message out after she got a report of two people going to a house damaged by floodwaters and identifying themselves as FEMA agents.

Nederlo says the couple offered to buy the house.

She’s worried desperate people will sign their homes over to scammers thinking there’s a payout from the feds on the way.

Nederlo says towns and villages have to finish their damage assessments before FEMA ever gets involved.

Those damage assessments are expected to be completed soon.

She anticipates damages of several million dollars in public infrastructure alone.
