Already drenched by water a week ago, some areas in Vernon county recorded buckets of rain again Monday night.

The National Weather Service reports rain totals of 2-6″ in the area after storms moved through Monday night.

Readstown recorded the highest amount at 5.93″.

With the 5″ of rain that fell on Hillsboro last night, that community has received over 17″ of rain since August 26th.

Nearly 16″ has drenched Westby, Mauston and Cashton.

The National Weather Service says that’s one third to one half of those areas typical annual rainfall.

More heavy rain is expected in the area Tuesday night.

The rains have delayed the first day of school for several communities, including Westby, Hillsboro and Cashton.

Norwalk-Ontario-Wilton, Prairie du Chien and De Soto school have also delayed the start of school due to the rains and floods.
