La Crosse Police lock up Blue Baby

Published

on

Last weekend, an underage drinker punched La Crosse’s blue baby sculpture.

This week, with Oktoberfest now in full swing, La Crosse’s police decided to take precautionary measures by fencing in Hatched Baby, the artwork made by German artist Wolfgang Auer.

La Crosse Police wrote on Facebook, “We have 1 true German in this town and we have to lock him up for @OktoberfestLaX. This just doesn’t seem right! #Gemütlichkeit #DontMessWithBlueBaby.”

Last week, an officer was outside headquarters, near where the blue baby is displayed outside City Hall, and heard someone say ‘No, don’t do that!’

The officer saw what turned out to be an underage drinker try to push, then hit the sculpture. The baby ended up with a dent in its head and the “attacker” with a $250 fine.
