Police numbers from 2015 Oktoberfest show what can happen
La Crosse area police are, of course, hoping for low numbers when it comes to crime and emergencies during Oktoberfest.
The county prevention network released some of the data on the 2015 Oktoberfest, as a reminder of all the things that can happen on the fest weekend.
That year, city police made nearly 1,200 calls during the four-day Oktoberfest.
Of those, 300 were for service to the campus area, 200 to downtown and 42 during the Maple Leaf Parade.
Police arrested 258 people — the vast majority, for alcohol violations. In fact, there were 178 alcohol violations during that fest.
On a typical weekend in La Crosse, police will get about 500 calls total.
