Baldwin approves of FBI investigation of Kavanaugh

The FBI has until the end of this week to investigate sexual assault charges against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin believes it’s very important to find out more about Kavanaugh before the Senate votes on his confirmation.

During a visit to Oktoberfest in La Crosse, Baldwin said she thought the testimony of Dr. Christine Ford was “credible” and “compelling.”

“She had nothing to gain by presenting that testimony in light of the threats she received,” Baldwin said. “I believe her.

Baldwin, one of the 100 Senators who have the job of deciding Kavanaugh’s future, characterized the judge’s appearance before a Senate committee that same day as Ford’s testimony as “evasive” and “belligerent.”

“We have been calling for reopening of Kavanaugh’s background investigation ever since allegations came up,” Baldwin said, adding having an FBI investigation before a confirmation vote on Kavanaugh is “standard operating procedure.”

“The background investigation is done to inform the White House about their nominees and to inform the senate as we perform our advise and consent role,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin’s opponent for re-election, Leah Vukmir, said Kavanaugh should be confirmed and argues that Baldwin and other liberals will “do anything to stop” the nomination.
