Citizens of Trempealeau County have voted in a recall election to replace their district attorney.

Taavi McMahon received 450 of the roughly 27-hundred votes cast in a recall primary Tuesday.

McMahon’s former assistant DA John Sacia overwhelmingly won the Democratic primary, putting him in a November runoff against corporation counsel Rick Niemeyer.

Critics have accused McMahon of failing to prosecute cases properly, and for his management of the prosecutor’s office and staff.

McMahon is in his second term.
