A duck hunter who died in a La Crosse County kayaking accident has been identified.

Jim A. Schuster was 68. He died on Sunday after his boat tipped over on the La Crosse River.  The kayak reportedly had become caught on a tree.

Schuster and a second hunter, Bryon Schuster, were hunting for ducks.  Bryon tried to rescue him, but had trouble because the water was cold.  Another person nearby helped Bryon bring Jim out of the river.

The 68-year-old Schuster was pronounced dead at the scene.  He reportedly owned a boat rental business in the area.

The deadly accident follows another one in Wisconsin over the weekend. A 52-year-old Princeton man died while duck hunting on the Fox River on Saturday afternoon.

That hunter’s duck boat turned over in high winds dumping the victim, another man and a dog into the Fox River near Puckaway Lake. The other hunter and dog were able to escape.
