Here’s a “glass-mostly-full” economic story for La Crosse…the area’s all-time lowest unemployment rate.

For September, the La Crosse metro area jobless rate was down to an even 2%…down .6 from a month ago.

This makes 59 months in a row that the jobless rate in all 12 Wisconsin metro areas is the same as a year ago, or lower.

The only cities in the state with lower unemployment than La Crosse are Madison and two of its suburbs, Fitchburg and Sun Prairie.

La Crosse’s city jobless rate is 2.2%.

Workforce Development Secretary Ray Allen says the record numbers continue a good statewide trend.

Allen says construction, retail, and manufacturing are seeing some of the biggest benefits of low unemployment in Wisconsin.
