WATCH ON WKTY: Central looks to upset 8th-ranked Monona Grove

Central High School’s football team will be road warriors once again tonight.

The sixth-seeded Red Raiders (8-2) will try for another upset, this time against No. 2-seeded Monona Grove (10-0), which finished the regular season ranked eighth in the Large Division.

Central is in a great position with several athletes at its disposal. Jordan Davis and Jamar Davis have been the team’s main weapons at receiver but, last week against Oregon, the Red Raiders proved they can survive when those two don’t put up gaudy numbers.

“A lot of times Jordan’s getting double covered,” Central coach Tony Servais said. “Sometimes they put their best defender on Jamar. We were able to get the ball to DeAndre last week.

“So, we were able to move the ball around, even if they were able to take away Jordan or Jamar. We still have other options.”

DeAndre Davis finished with five receptions for 80 yards in the 26-23 first-round win over No. 2-seeded Oregon (7-3), a team that lost to Monona Grove 21-7 back on Aug. 31.

Servais said they got a little extra preparation in on Monona Grove, having watched film of that Aug. 31 game last week.

If you can’t make the trip to Monona, watch it live here, beginning at 6:50 p.m. with Drew Kelly and Grant Bilse on the call.
