Nina Hartley's speech at UW-L drew protests from campus and the community

The Chancellor of UW-La Crosse apologized to the university for inviting a porn star to speak on campus earlier this month.

Joe Gow sent an email around campus Monday, saying he was “naive” about the media attention arising from the visit of Nina Hartley, who spoke at UW-L two weeks ago.

Gow said he will personally compensate the university for the $5,000 fee paid to Hartley for her appearance, during Free Speech Week and, he says, he will not comment further on the matter.

Student fee money initially had been used to pay Hartley.

Gow says he will now book a speaker from a group that opposes pornography.
