Wisconsin tourism secretary Stephanie Klett speaks to the Governor's Council on Tourism during a Thursday meeting in La Crosse

Members of a state task force that promotes Wisconsin tourism got a VIP treatment while meeting in La Crosse.

The Governor’s Council on Tourism has one meeting on the road each year, and the committee came to the Charmant Hotel today.

State tourism secretary Stephanie Klett says La Crosse’s tourism industry is “blowing it out of the water” in offering attractive places to go downtown and along the riverfront.

La Crosse convention bureau director A.J. Frels hosted the meeting, as one of the newest members of the council.

During a two-day visit to La Crosse, council members dined at La Chateau, stayed at the Hampton Inn downtown, and took a trolley tour of the city.

La Crosse County is among the top 10 counties in Wisconsin for revenue resulting from tourism.
