Changes already starting in city hall after outside parks audit

On the heels of a revealing audit, changes are coming to La Crosse’s city hall.

Mayor Tim Kabat says city staff is already working to implement some changes on basic processes like how finances are tracked for certain projects.

“There’s steps that need to improve the of how these projects are laid out and implemented,” Kabat said.

A $30,000 audit of the city’s parks and rec. department found inconsistencies and confusion in how projects get funded and in other areas.

Kabat doesn’t foresee any significant expense for any departments in following the audit recommendations.

Kabat had vetoed the city council’s decision to pay for an outside audit in December, arguing it was a waste of money and unnecessary.

The full city council gets briefed on the audit’s conclusions and recommendations next month.
