A new local appliance store hopes to carry on the Wettsteins legacy.

Karl’s TV store chain, based in South Dakota, is celebrating the grand opening of a La Crosse area outlet, in the former Michael’s storefront in Onalaska near Shopko.

The Karl’s company has been in business since 1956, starting a few years after Wettsteins opened in La Crosse.

The Wettsteins store on 3rd Street in La Crosse closed in August.

Karl’s has hired several former Wettsteins employees and also arranged to take over the Wettsteins website and store phone number.

Gundersen Health System in La Crosse is developing downtown clinic space in the old Wettsteins building.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
