No problems yet for veterans attending Viterbo after VA technical glitches
Veterans across the country are seeing longer delays than normal for getting their GI benefits.
That’s due to outdated computer software that is struggling to keep up with recent changes to the GI bill. Part of those benefits helps students pay for college.
“A typical delay would normally be between 6-8 weeks,” Keith Purnell, Director of Military Aligned Student Support with Viterbo University, said. “And, we haven’t had any indication from any of our students that any of them has fallen into a situation where they haven’t been paid.”
Purnell added that even if there are concerns about payment delays, there are other services available locally. He mentioned there are services with the State Department of Veterans Affairs that could possibly offset some of the losses.
The VA told Congress this week that delays were affecting 11,000 veterans who have been waiting 30 days or more.
