It could be a case of mistaken identity, or stolen identity, in La Crosse County court.

A 23-year-old man is brought to court on a charge of hitting a woman in the mouth during an argument, knocking out one of her teeth.

But the victim tells a judge that the suspect brought to court was not the man who struck her.

Emmanuel Hunt was arrested on a charge of battery.

However, the victim said in court that she learned her attacker was a different man, allegedly using the name Emmanuel Hunt.

Judge Scott Horne said the police and district attorney investigated the case before Hunt was arrested.

But the judge released Hunt on a signature bond, and told him to return to court on Friday while investigators try to determine who the attacker actually was.
