A La Crosse woman claims her former boyfriend beat her up and tried to strangle her three different times during a weekend fight.

The DA’s office is charging 20-year-old Manuel Grenert of Onalaska with strangulation and battery, defined as domestic abuse.

A criminal complaint says the two began to argue at her apartment, and then Grenert threw the woman’s phone at a wall, pulled some of her hair out, and knocked her to the ground.

After Grenert allegedly made three attempts to choke the victim, they both kicked each other.

Grenert told police that he didn’t strangle the woman.

He has been released from jail.
