Wisconsin Republicans looking desperate in lame-duck session

Leaders of the Wisconsin Legislature are starting to look a little desperate. Stung by losses in the recent election which saw democrats capture the governor’s office, as well as Attorney General, and Lt. Governor, republicans who still control the Legislature want to maintain their grip on power. To do so, they will meet in a special session this week to try to limit the powers of those voters statewide chose to serve. They want to restrict Governor-elect Evers from overseeing the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, and want to restrict incoming Attorney General Josh Kaul from being able to remove the state from a lawsuit filed by the current Attorney General challenging the Affordable Care Act. And once again, they want to make it harder for you and I to vote. They are dredging up another attempt to restrict the availability of in-person absentee voting. A court already ruled such previous efforts to severely restrict opportunities for early voting were unconstitutional, but that isn’t stopping them. They’ve already rigged our elections, with Gerrymandered legislative districts and making us show a photo ID. Now they want to make it harder for us to cast a ballot, despite the fact that early voting has become increasingly popular. Apparently they think too many people voted. Our legislative leaders should drop this desperate plan to cling to power and honor the results of the recent election.
