Delta Queen allowed to cruise again

The Delta Queen could return to the Mississippi River soon….maybe within two years.

President Trump has signed a bill to let the mostly-wooden paddlewheeler, built in 1924, make cruises again.

Wooden cruise boats generally are banned by federal law from making overnight trips on American waters, because of the danger of fires.

The hull of the Delta Queen is made of steel.

The famous riverboat made frequent stops in the La Crosse area until being sidelined a few years ago.

An extensive renovation is planned before the Delta Queen goes back on the water in 2020.
