First, it was the state Supreme Court meeting in Sparta, and then last week, the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents gathered in La Crosse.

Now, another state government body is headed to western Wisconsin this month.

On Dec. 20, the 4th District Court of Appeals will hear arguments at the La Crosse courthouse.

The judges of that court represent a big geographic area.

“District 4 includes La Crosse and as far down south as Dane County,” Tom Sheehan, the public information officer for the state court system, said. “There’s, I believe, 24 counties in the district as a whole. Normally, cases are heard in Dane County.”

The appeals court often settles issues of the law in its rulings, in deciding whether a lower court ruling should be overturned.

No decision will be made on the case that day.
