UW-L chancellor concerned about paid street parking plan around university
The paid, on-street parking plan has yet to be implemented in La Crosse.
The plan is to charge around both the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Western Technical College.
The details of that plan, however, could change.
UW-L Chancellor Joe Gow hopes that the city will reconsider the proposal, which has upset many students.
“Maybe they will rethink the cost,” Gow said Tuesday at a campus forum. “They talked about, what $1 an hour? Maybe they’ll say, ‘Gee, that’s too high.'”
City leaders are still planning to put the pilot program into effect. The plan is to charge $1 an hour for up to four hours. People would pay by an app or by calling an 800 number.
During the campus open forum, Gow said the parking charges could lead student drivers to park off-campus, in more residential areas.
