This is the last day for area residents to apply in person for flood relief at government recovery centers in western Wisconsin.

The Vernon County center at the Westby United Methodist Church will be open today between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

One other center is open, at Middleton in Dane County.

FEMA decided to close the recovery centers before the scheduled December 17th deadline because the number of people visiting the offices has dropped sharply.

People seeking assistance with damage from the summer floods can still apply on-line or over the phone until Monday.

The phone number is 800-621-3362, open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.  The website is DisasterAssistance.gov.
