Dreaming of a white Christmas in La Crosse?

The chances are very good that La Crosse will have snow on the ground for Christmas Day.

As for it actually snowing by the holiday? Those chances aren’t so good.

The National Weather Service says there’s a 70 percent chance of having an inch of snow on the ground Dec. 25 but only an 11 percent chance of getting an inch of snow that day.

La Crosse has had snow cover for most of December and, despite several recent days of above-freezing weather, the snow cover in La Crosse really hasn’t melted much.

La Crosse has had three non-white Christmases in the last 10 years, including a year ago.

A record of 19 inches of snow cover for Christmas was set in 2010.

One forecast said La Crosse’s best chance for snow before Christmas Day happens today.
