As I See It
Outgoing politicians fall up, not down
It is hard to feel sorry for the
politicians when the voters reject them. Sure, they suddenly find
themselves out of a job, but typically not for long. Perhaps none have
landed on their feet as quickly as outgoing Wisconsin Attorney
General Brad Schimel. Schimel was defeated in the November election in a
close race that was certified a week later. The very next day, Schimel
was handed a new job by his boss, Governor Scott Walker. Schimel was
appointed by Walker as a new judge in Waukesha
County, handing him his cushy job just one day after voters rejected
him. It was a job that Schimel didn’t even apply for. In fact, Schimel
had written letters of recommendations for four people who did apply for
the judgeship. But Walker rejected the applications
of those who did apply for the job and handed Schimel the consolation
prize of being a circuit court judge. We have seen this before.
Politicians rewarding their politician buddies. It seems when it comes
to our politicians who are voted out of office, they
are more likely to fall up than down.
