Stabbing suspect held in jail on $100,000 bond
One week after a fatal stabbing in a La Crosse neighborhood, the suspect in the case made his first court appearance Wednesday.
Anquin St. Junious is accused of stabbing Virgil Stewart to death. The homicide happened around 2 a.m. Jan. 2 on the 600 block of 7th street south.
Judge Gloria Doyle set bond at $100,000 cash, and ordered St. Junious back to court on Jan. 24. St. Junious appeared through a video link from the county jail Wednesday.
The 39-year-old is being charged as a repeat offender, because he was arrested in 2011 for stabbing a bartender at John’s Bar in La Crosse. He was sentenced to five years in prison for the crime.
As for the murder Jan. 2, according to a criminal complaint, St. Junious and his wife believed that several people at a house on 7th Street were going to come after them. Stewart was, apparently, part of that group.
The stabbing reportedly occurred inside a cab that St. Junious and his wife were going to take, to leave the scene.
