New $42 million La Crosse Center concept, paid on-street parking both given OK by council
The latest plan for remodeling the La Crosse Center is going forward.
The city council endorsed Thursday night a new concept for a west-side addition to the civic center — smaller than a plan that was vetoed by the mayor last summer.
Just one council member voted against the concept, former La Crosse Center board member Jessica Olson.
She’s requesting a third-party study of the economic impact from the new proposal, not one from the architects planning the building expansion.
One convention promoter urged the council to vote against the west concept, because it could reduce the amount of meeting space available.
The city council also voted to start a pilot program for on-street paid parking near the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and Western Technical College.
The rate for parking in those areas would be $1 per hour for a max of four hours.

I am sure glad I went to UWL in the 1970’s and not now.
$1 an hour is a lot for college students to pay for parking.
They have to eat also
