UPDATE: Drive who collided head on with semi has life-threatening injuries

He has life-threatening injuries after driving the wrong way on Interstate 90 and colliding head on with a semi.

The state patrol says John Kelter may have been drunk when his Subaru SUV collided with the semi carrying grain in the eastbound lane of the interstate, near West Salem, Wis.

The 22-year-old had to be freed from his SUV after it crashed into the semi, which happened around 2:30 a.m. The truck driver, from Iowa, only reported being sore after the accident

It took four hours to clear the eastbound lanes. 

Kelter was been flown to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse for treatment.
