Sparta man sentenced to 20 years for child sexploitation

A Sparta, Wis., man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for trafficking and sexually exploiting children.

Zachariah Svoboda was charged with 34 criminal counts related to sex offenses involving children. 

The 29-year-old Svoboda pled guilty last fall to just five of the charges against him, including sexual exploitation of a child and possessing child porn.

Sparta police and other investigators found pornographic images on Svoboda’s computer and uncovered evidence that he used social media to meet and arrange sexual encounters with underage girls. 

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse.
