Public market idea and Shopko closing get City Hall attention
The idea of starting a public market in La Crosse is mostly focused on putting it downtown.
Another possible site, however, has emerged in recent weeks: Bridgeview Plaza.
The closing of the north-side Shopko may open up new possibilities for a market, according to Andrea Schnick of the city planner’s office.
Schnick said the Shopko site also will be studied for possible office or residential use.
Meanwhile, a citywide meeting on the public market proposal is scheduled for Feb. 6. Shopko is scheduled to close April 6.

I think the best site for a City Market IS in downtown LaCrosse. We need to draw folks BACK to down town and a City Market would do that. I don’t know the name of the building but I know it has recently been up for sale. It is the lovely brick building on the corner of 5th and King, right across the street from Cameron Park. The building is close to Peoples Food Co op and people are accustomed to the outdoor Farmers Market in Cameron Park. We are excited to see what this City Market can bring to LaCrosse.

Thought K-Mart would be a great place as well. People without transportation need these places. Food Co-op, Festival OVER PRICED!
