More development may be coming soon to the east side of Highway 16, near the Valley View Mall.

La Crosse’s city plan commission approved two projects Monday which would be built near the intersection of Hwy. 16 and Gillette Street.

One would be an office building for Castle Realty, in a former Kwik Trip.

The other would be a 24-unit apartment complex, offering one- and two-bedroom apartments.

Neighbors have concerns about the increased volume of traffic, which already is apparently high in that area now.

It’s estimated that about 25,000 cars a day use Highway 16 in the mall area. More than half of those drivers live outside La Crosse.

Both projects will be reviewed Tuesday night by the city council judiciary committee.
