Gillette Street plans are topic of afternoon meeting at City Hall

Published

on

The next major street in La Crosse to get a makeover could be Gillette Street.

Plans for reconstruction of that north-side street will be discussed during a 4:30 p.m. meeting Monday at La Crosse City Hall.

The comment session will also serve as the weekly meeting of the city’s board of public works.

The city’s planning and engineering departments will offer ideas for providing more pedestrian and bicycle access on Gillette — between Rose Street and Logan High School — along with the possible ban of parking on one side of the street.

What may I ask is the point of a public input meeting if the public input will not be listened to?

From the city website- 2/11/2019 – Gillette Street Reconstruction Public Input Meeting February 11th
Gillette Street Reconstruction Public Input Meeting
The City of La Crosse Planning & Development and Engineering Departments invite you to participate in a public input session on the Reconstruction of Gillette Street from rose street to Onalaska Avenue.
This meeting will provide a project overview, describe bicycle/ pedestrian accommodations, and possible removal of parking from one side of the street.
WHAT: Gillette Street Reconstruction Project – Public Input Meeting

Possible removal of parking from one side of the Gillette street? After listening to home owners, business owners and community members discuss, it was obvious that the majority in the room were not in favor of the removal of the north side parking on Gillette St. for a bike lanes on both sides of Gillette. It was suggested that perhaps another not so highly traffic street would be a better idea.
