February snow record could still be broken in La Crosse

It’s turning out to be one of the snowiest Februarys in La Crosse history.

Another 5.6 inches of snow fell Wednesday at the National Weather Service office in La Crosse.

That brings the monthly total to 26.8 inches, making this February the third snowiest February in La Crosse history.

Only February of 1936 and 1959 were snowier.

The record for the month is currently 31 inches.

But with another three to five inches of snow possible Saturday night, La Crosse could continue to inch toward the all-time record.

In the past 30 days, La Crosse has received about 38 inches of snow.

That’s more snow than has fallen in most calendar months in La Crosse, except for 39.6 inches in January of 1929
