La Crosse records its 6th snowiest winter
Only five winters on record in La Crosse have been snowier than this season.
That’s what the National Weather Service tells us, as it adds up the figures from meteorological winter…which includes all of December, January, and February.
The 50.2 inches of snow which fell in those three months makes this the city’s 6th snowiest winter…20 inches above normal.
Four of La Crosse’s 6 snowiest winters have happened in the last 15 years.
The city only had 4 inches of snow during December, but snow fell 54 % of the days between December 1st and February 28th.
As for cold weather, La Crosse reported its lowest temperatures in 23 years, and we fell just under the average of 23 days in a winter where temps got below zero.
This winter has been just three-tenths of one degree below normal in temperature…despite an unusually warm December and a colder-than-usual February.
