Barn fire, collapse kills thousands of swine in Buffalo County

Many hundreds of hogs have died in a barn fire in Buffalo County.

The sheriff’s office there got a call early yesterday about a large hog barn on fire at Holden Farms, near Mondovi.

A portion of the barn had collapsed overnight prior to the fire starting.

Fire crews from five counties battled the blaze for several hours.

Some 4000 swine were in the barn at the time of the fire, and the majority died in the blaze.
