Park board veteran Terpstra dies at 54

The La Crosse park board has postponed its scheduled Thursday meeting for a week, following the death last week of a 13-year veteran of the board. 

Services are scheduled Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church for 54-year-old Mark Terpstra, who had served on the park board since 2006. 

Terpstra was honored in 2015 as marshal for the Oktoberfest Torchlight Parade. 

The mayor and city council will choose a successor to fill Terpstra’s seat on the board.   

Terpstra was a career railroad engineer for Burlington Northern.

A native of Prairie du Chien, Brad graduated from UW - La Crosse and has worked in radio news for more than 30 years, mostly in the La Crosse area. He regularly covers local courts and city and county government. Brad produces the features "Yesterday in La Crosse" and "What's Buried on Brad's Desk." He also writes the website "Triviazoids," which finds odd connections between events that happen on a certain date, and he writes and performs with the local comedy group Heart of La Crosse. Brad been featured on several national TV programs because of his memory skills.
