Too many supermarkets? A problem 29 years ago
In early 1990, the plan to put a Pick ‘n Save store near Onalaska Luther High School was scrapped. The store planner gave up on the project because a Festival Foods store was already being built on the other side of I-90, and the Cub Foods store near Valley View Mall was being expanded.
The La Crosse Center was offering a wide variety of entertainment. The Catbirds basketball team was on its way to its first CBA championship in 1990, under coach Flip Saunders. Motley Crue played for 7500 rock music fans, and there was a touring production of the 1920’s musical “No, No, Nanette,’ which introduced the song ‘Tea for Two.’
At the People’s Choice Awards in March of 1990, the favorite motion picture of the year was ‘Batman,’ with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. The all-around favorite performers were Roseanne Barr and Bill Cosby. Well…times change.
