The ‘Moon Tunes’ series of summer concerts in La Crosse often has trouble avoiding bad weather on show nights…but it’s prepared for construction in Riverside Park this summer.

A temporary stage, just 18 inches off the ground, will be set up for many of the Thursday concerts this year, while the historic bandstand and a new canopy are being built.

Terry Bauer with Moon Tunes says materials from the temporary platform will be recycled when the summer is done, by being donated to Habitat for Humanity.

Bauer tells the La Crosse park board that a wooden stage will be built because organizers weren’t able to rent a portable stage big enough for the concerts they’ll have in late summer.

Moon Tunes traditionally runs from early June to the week of Labor Day.
